pastoral residency track

designed for those CALLED to be trained in the day-to-day heart, life, and skills needed to pastor and plant a church or revitalize a local church.

the pastoral residency is for:

  • men who are in a local church elder/pastor training process and desire and need to be trained as church planter/pastor or revitalizer.

  • men who are already a local church elder/pastor who desire and need to be trained as church planter/pastor or revitalizer.

what

this residency is designed:

  • to impact the heart with gospel transformation,

  • to impact the whole life - because ministry is about the home, community, and the body of Christ,

  • to impact the skills of the pastor - so they can learn practical servant leadership abilities.

  • to equip the church planter/pastor to do the unique things involved in planting a church.

  • to equip the church revitalizer/pastor to do the unique things involved in planting a church.

  • specific skills that the pastor will be engaged and equipped in:

    1. prayer and presence (of the Lord) - helping the leader practice and enjoy a way of life for all of life and ministry.

    2. servant leadership - helping the leader have Christ's servant leadership heart - that becomes a way for all leaders.

    3. shepherding the body - helping the leader the care, serving, and loving of people as a pastor

    4. discipleship - helping the leader build a church that is multiplying disciples that includes: evangelism - life on life growth - and reproduction.

    5. teaching/preaching - helping the leader learn to preach, equip, and teach the body in the gospel / whole counsel of God.

    6. team building - helping the leader build teams for ministry and discipleship. this involves seeing gifts, personality, and skills to empower people and fuel these teams.

    7. theological growth - helping the leader connect theology (biblical mandates) to all practical ministry applications in the church.

    8. vision framing - helping the leader capture the why of the church that then impacts all the church does. (this includes values, strategy, and measures.)

    9. fundraising - helping the leader learn to raise money for the ongoing work at hand.

    10. mission - helping the leader learn to send the church on mission to the neighborhood and the nations.

content

time commitment

this is an intense two-year residency.

  • this residency will meet every week - with designated time off during the year.

  • each residency session is 2 hours long and it is filled with processing and discussing - readings, assignments, and more. residents will be assigned to lead particular moments of the session.

  • the resident will also have leader assignments in their local church determined by the local pastor.

  • the resident will be meeting with a pastor in their local church for prayer, discipleship, and mentoring.

  • there will be opportunities offered to care for and equip the pastor and his wife (if married).

  1. the applicant must be a pastor/elder or in the pastor/elder track in their home church.

  2. fill out the pastoral residency application.

  3. personal interview with the sLi team (this needs to be in person or a zoom call).

  4. you must have pastoral approval from your local church to apply.
